What do you think about green tea?

Green Tea is a fresh drink. Many people enjoy it during their morning time, their leisure time, or when they spent their time with family. For some people, green tea is the most important think to start a great day. Green tea is one of four types of tea (white, green, black, and oolong) that come from the plant Camellia sinensis. Those four tea came from the same plant but actually Green tea is very special.

Green tea is not oxidized, It is withered, immediately steamed or heated to prevent oxidation and then rolled and dried. Therefore green teas, when brewed appropriately, tend to have less caffeine (10-30% of coffee). It has a delicate taste, light green colour and is very refreshing.


The difference between green tea and the other tea is because its preserve more polyphenols. The beneficial effects of green tea are attributed to the polyphenols, particularly the catechins, which make up 30% of the dry weight of green tea leaves. These catechins are present in higher quantities in green tea than in black or oolong tea, because of differences in the processing of tea leaves after harvest .

So what about the polyphenols? Is it useful?

There are several polyphenolic catechins in green tea:

epicatechin (EC), epicatechin—3—gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC), epigallocatechin—3—gallate (EGCG), catechin, gallocatechin (GC). From those parts, the most important one is EGCG.  Epigallocatechin—3—gallate is the most abundant catechin in green tea, accounting for about 65% of its catechin content. Most of the research on green tea has been done on the isolated catechins or powdered supplement. One cup of green tea generally contains 100—200 mg of EGCG. According to a review of the evidence for the efficacy of unconventional therapies used in cancer patients, several studies have demonstrated green tea polyphenols’ preventative and inhibitory effects against tumor formation and growth. The green tea polyphenols, particularly EGCG, may be effective in preventing cancer of the prostate, breast, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, and colon.

Is that all?

Of course not, you can find many advantages of drinking green tea. Some expertise people have found green tea specialties for health, for example:

 “Drinking tea regularly may be one of the most practical lifestyle changes you can make to significantly reduce your risk of suffering a stroke,” says epidemiologist Le­nore Arab of the University of California at Los Angeles.

Green tea may also prevent the prostate cancer, said  researcher Susanne Henning of the Center for Human Nutri­tion at the University of California at Los Angeles. “I would definitely advise them to drink large amounts of green tea, be­cause it may slow down the progression of the disease.”

Some scientist also said that green tea may prevent women from breast cancer

And there are many more health benefit from green tea.
